That said, don't listen to the people who say that you get better results from this or that. Simplif圓D has an awesome feature set, but it has been slow on the improvements compared with Cura. They constantly do this kind of bullshit child-proofing to protect the user from themselves and it is really annoying.

You have to hit the "Custom" tab and then update the profile with the custom changes. You have to enable the settings to be able to be seen, then you can't change the settings right away.

Even with the advancements to Cura, they somehow managed to make it incredibly more confusing. I have used virtually every slicer out there and Simplif圓D is by far the best. I will also say that the S3D supports are still top dog as far as slicer supports go, but Meshmixer and the improvement to supports to the latest Slic3r PE builds (still no custom supports though!) again I just can't justify the cost of a heavily DRM'd product that has not gotten a major update in almost a year. S3D will give you much better prints "out of the box," but I felt once I had properly tuned Slic3r I was very seriously getting better prints on objects that did not require support. There hasn't been a major update since July 7th of 2016 which is concerning if you're a paying customer. I wish I had kept my comparison pictures.

The prints I was getting on the latest Slic3r Prusa Edition were better in almost every way compared to S3D. We use Autodesk Design and Mesh-Mixer also, they are Great! So, it's not a problem if deactivated each time you use it. I had same problem with Makerware locking out other software,īut found that there is an option in it's pulldown-menu to disable that, before closing it. Once I uninstalled the makerware software and replicatorg, Simplify-3D worked fine and connected to the printer without issue.

I had a big problem getting the serial ports to work on my pc until I discovered that the replicatorg and also the makerbot software take over the port and keep it open thus blocking any other software from connecting. Nothing worse than getting 5 hours into a 6 hour print and the pc goes to sleep and the printer stops printing. It WILL work through the USB cable also, but that's the worst way to use a 3d Printer because if anything happens to your pc whilst it's printing the whole thing stops.
